Project Details

Celebrating McKean County’s Lumber Heritage

To honor McKean County’s deep connections to Pennsylvania’s lumber heritage, the County utilized mini-grant funding to design and construct two large welcome signs at the east and west entrances along U.S. Route 6. These striking signs, crafted with natural wood textures, proudly display the logos of the Lumber Heritage Region, PA Route 6 Alliance, DCNR, and PA Wilds.

Creating Iconic Entry Points

Once installed, the signs will serve as iconic gateways for both travelers and residents, signaling arrival into a region where history, culture, and natural resources are celebrated. Their design ties into broader branding initiatives across the region, reinforcing McKean County’s role as a key destination along Pennsylvania’s historic lumber and travel corridors.

Collaboration and Support

The McKean County Planning Commission spearheaded the project with strong support from the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau and local vendors. This collaboration not only reflects community pride but also strengthens heritage tourism visibility while enhancing the County’s overall sense of place.

Looking Ahead

The signs are complete and will be installed as soon as weather conditions permit, offering visitors a warm and memorable welcome into McKean County and the greater Pennsylvania Wilds.
