Project Details

Honoring an Industry Leader

The DuBois Area Historical Society developed the Sidney Fuller Historical Panel to shed light on the important role Sidney Fuller and the timber/bark industry played in shaping DuBois and the surrounding region. Many people today are unaware of this legacy, but Fuller’s saw and planning mill, located west of John DuBois’s mill along Sandy Lick Creek, was a cornerstone of local industry. Fuller also operated a large mill in the town of Fuller, south of Reynoldsville, PA .

The Project

The project involved the research, design, and creation of a fiberglass historical panel telling the story of Sidney Fuller as a businessman, lumberman, and community builder. The panel also highlights his ownership of the Opera House, a hub of cultural life in DuBois.

The panel is designed in the same interpretive style as the Society’s other historical signs, ensuring a cohesive presentation of DuBois’s history across the community .

Impact and Growth

Once installed near the VFW parking lot on DuBois Avenue, the Sidney Fuller panel will become the 16th interpretive panel placed by the Society across the community. Plans are already underway for six additional panels, ensuring that local history continues to be visible and accessible to residents and visitors alike .
