The Project

Grant funding supported the production of two outdoor interpretive panels, sled-style mounting pedestals, and protective display enclosures, all designed to fit into ADMA’s overall signage plan. The displays follow the format of other regional historical panels, including the Cora Brooks/Bayless Paper Mill and Austin Kindling Factory exhibits.

The CCC Company 2336 panel was installed near the Jones Run Bridge at the northern trailhead of the 2.5-mile footpath connecting to Main Street in the Austin Borough. The Austin Kindling Factory panel was installed at the Austin Dam Welcome Center near the Cora Brooks exhibit.

ADMA collaborated with the Lumber Heritage Region, E.O. Austin House and Museum, Blue Moon Media and Marketing, Pannier Graphics, Cousins Designs and the DCNR on the Bark Shanty CCC project. Unveilings were on August 29, 2026. Installations were completed by the ADMA.

Lasting Impact

The Austin Kindling Factory interpretive display was delivered on January 13, 2025, and officially unveiled on August 29, 2026, along with associated funding and visitor signage. ADMA installed the display on a permanent double pedestal near the Cora Brooks/Bayless Paper Mill exhibit at a trailhead of the Austin Heritage Trail, which connects the meadow below concrete dam ruins with Main Street in the Austin Borough.
A second, sled-mounted display featuring the CCC Company 2336 S-146 panel was designed as a portable exhibit. It
can be displayed at Austin Dam Memorial Park, near the Cora Brooks exhibit, or temporarily at the E.O. Austin House
and Museum in the Austin town square and other appropriate locations. The portable display is currently stored
indoors at Austin Dam Memorial Park.
