Grants and Mini-Grant Opportunities

The Lumber Heritage Region (LHR) proudly supports projects that celebrate and enhance our region’s rich history, vibrant culture, outdoor recreation, and conservation efforts. Our grant programs focus on projects where these themes intersect, fostering initiatives that make a lasting impact across our communities.
These projects are financed in part by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Heritage Area Program, under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.

Mini-Grants

Funded through the Pennsylvania Heritage Areas Program Fund and administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, our mini-grants are designed to bring innovative ideas to life.

PLEASE NOTE – Mini Grant Projects should be able to be completed in 12 months or LESS.

Eligible applicants include:

• Non-profit 501(c)3 Organizations
  (MUST possess current Bureau of Charitable Trust Certificate- https://www.dos.pa.gov/BusinessCharities/Charities/Pages/default.aspx)
• Municipalities
• Councils of Government
• Conservation Districts
• Educational Institutions
• Housing and Redevelopment Authorities

All projects must be located within the LHR boundaries, which span 15 counties. If applying from Indiana, Cambria, or Clarion Counties, contact us to confirm eligibility.

Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, Lycoming, McKean, Potter, Tioga, Warren

Eligible activities for mini-grant funding include but are NOT limited to:

• Educational resources promoting the forest products industry and regional heritage.
• Projects highlighting history, diversity, and recreational opportunities in the region.
• Outdoor recreation projects aligned with LHR themes.
• Packaged itineraries and tourism products.
• Elements from existing plans like trails, watersheds, and greenways.
• Projects inspired by the LHR’s Uncovering Our Roots initiatives.
• Interpretive panels focusing on history, heritage, forest sustainability, and jobs in the forest products industry.
• Projects increasing access to recreational areas and amenities.
• Community programs that use nature to boost well-being and reduce health disparities

For larger project support, we encourage you to contact our Executive Director to discuss potential opportunities. Together, we can continue to preserve and promote the legacy of the Lumber Heritage Region.

Restrictions:

• LHR Mini Grants may not be used as match for other DCNR-funded projects.

• LHR Mini Grant funds must be applied to direct, project-based expenses only and may not be used for administrative or overhead costs.

• LHR Mini Grant funds may not be applied for Land Acquisition.
