Construction of a performing arts stage and outdoor entertainment complex to expand community events and enhance local cultural and recreational opportunities.

Project Details

The Kane Family Drive-In project in Kane, McKean County, involved constructing a 24 x 40-foot performing arts stage and outdoor entertainment complex. The stage was designed with the PA Wilds design guide in mind, utilizing rough-cut hemlock sourced regionally and constructed in a traditional post and beam fashion to achieve an authentic turn-of-the-century look.

The primary goals of this project were to expand the community music festival, Squatchfest, and to create a versatile venue for various local events. The new stage allowed for the implementation of concert-quality lighting and sound, which enabled the hiring of nationally recognized musicians in addition to regional acts. This, in turn, directly impacted the local economy by attracting more visitors to the area.

The new stage has already demonstrated its value, with attendance at Squatchfest doubling in the first year after its construction. The increased attendance benefited local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and gas stations. The stage also provides a platform for local talent, such as dancers, high school musicians, and ecumenical church services, to perform throughout the year.

The Kane Family Drive-In project has significantly enhanced the cultural and recreational opportunities in the community. It has also fostered partnerships with local organizations for community presentations and educational events, broadening the use of the stage beyond just musical performances.
