Phelps Family Maple

About

Just outside Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, Phelps Family Maple has blossomed into a multigenerational celebration of maple-making—where time-honored methods blend seamlessly with modern efficiency. Owned and operated by Gary, Ben, and Steve Phelps, the farm produces rich, wood-fired Pennsylvania maple syrup, collecting sap exclusively from trees on their own land using both traditional and updated practices.

During the annual Maple Weekend—a beloved regional event now featuring 17 participating farms—the Phelps family opens their sugarhouse to the public, offering guided tours, live demonstrations, free samples, and warm cups of coffee, hot chocolate, chili, and soup. Visitors can watch the sap boil over roaring fires, taste the sweetness as it’s crafted, and feel the heritage that flows from barrel to bottle.

Beyond the festival, Phelps syrup graces shelves through local partnerships—from the Main Street Country Store in downtown Wellsboro to Carolina’s BBQ and Karen’s Country Store—making it easy for residents and travelers alike to savor their expertly crafted products. Whether welcoming curious guests or stocking store displays, the Phelps family keeps alive a shared love for community and craft. At Phelps Family Maple, every batch tells a story of wood-fired warmth, family ties, and a deep-rooted respect for Pennsylvania’s beloved sugarbush.
