John-Paul’s Farm

About

John-Paul’s Farm, Limited, located in East Wheatfield Township in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, is a small, regenerative farm that integrates sustainable practices into every aspect of its operation—including its seasonal maple syrup production. Owned and operated by John-Paul Runyan and Jane Kaminski, the farm was established in 2021 on ancestral land and has since grown into a diverse and community-focused operation. While they are known for their field-grown vegetables and pasture-raised eggs, maple syrup plays a special role in their offerings each late winter.

The farm’s maple syrup production taps into the sugar maples that grow on the wooded edges of their property within the Ohio River watershed. As winter wanes and sap begins to flow, John-Paul’s Farm shifts its focus to collecting and boiling sap in small batches, creating pure, hand-crafted maple syrup. This process reflects the farm’s core values—land stewardship, ecological awareness, and seasonality. The syrup is made using traditional methods enhanced by their regenerative approach to agriculture, ensuring that each bottle represents not just sweetness, but sustainability.

Though syrup is not their main product year-round, it is deeply woven into their mission. Their maple syrup is typically offered at the Indiana County Farmers’ Market and the Squirrel Hill Farmers’ Market in Pittsburgh, aligning with their commitment to direct-to-consumer sales, transparency, and community nourishment. Like the rest of their farm’s work, their maple production is done with care, intention, and a desire to reconnect people with the land and the seasons. Through maple syrup, John-Paul’s Farm continues its mission of producing honest, seasonal food while preserving the health of the forest and the soil for future generations.
