Stop #2: Potter County Historical Society

Founded in 1804, Potter County has a rich history centered around its vast forests. The Potter County Historical Society, located in Coudersport, offers a 6,000 sq. foot museum filled with historical and genealogical information. Visitors can explore over 2,215 works of history, genealogy, reference materials, and more. The museum provides a comprehensive look at the county’s development, from its early settlers to its bustling lumber industry.

Stop #3: The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum

Nestled in the wooded mountains of Potter County, the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum provides an educational experience about the state’s lumbering past. The museum features interactive exhibits that simulate activities such as swinging an ax and sawing a tree. Outdoor exhibits include a recreated early 20th-century lumber camp, a 70-ton Shay geared-locomotive, and a log cabin built by the C.C.C. The operable steam-powered sawmill is a highlight during special events.

Stop #4: Denton Hill State Park

Located in the heart of the PA Wilds, Denton Hill State Park offers excellent downhill skiing and a variety of recreational activities. The park’s elevation ranges from 1,800 to 2,400 feet above sea level, providing a unique setting for outdoor adventures. In addition to skiing, visitors can enjoy year-round access to the Susquehannock State Forest and the Billy Lewis Area Trail System, making it a great destination for hiking and nature exploration.

Visitors can explore eight rooms of exhibits and historical records, including the Ladd Genealogy Library. The society offers tours for individuals and groups, providing a deep dive into the local history and heritage of the area.

Stop #7: Deane Center for the Performing Arts

The Deane Center for the Performing Arts in Wellsboro, PA, is a cultural hub offering flexible rehearsal spaces, theaters, and room rentals for various events. Located along the beautiful, gas-lit Main Street, the center is the heart of arts activities in the community. The Arcadia Theater in Wellsboro has been entertaining audiences for over 80 years. Originally opened in 1921 as a single-screen movie house, it was renovated in 1997 into a four-screen theater. The Arcadia features state-of-the-art digital projectors and produces its own live theatrical productions. The theater’s dinner and a movie special make it a great spot for an evening out.

Bonus Stop: Leonard Harrison State Park
