Resources / Education
At the Lumber Heritage Region (LHR), we are committed to fostering a deeper understanding of Pennsylvania’s rich forestry heritage, conservation, and sustainable land use. That’s why we encourage educators, parents, and community leaders to explore resources like Project Learning Tree (PLT)—a nationally recognized environmental education program.
PLT provides engaging, hands-on lesson plans and resources for educators and parents that connect students of all ages with the natural world. These lessons complement LHR’s efforts to promote stewardship, sustainable forestry practices, and the historical significance of Pennsylvania’s timber industry.
Through interactive activities, PLT helps students explore forests as working landscapes, just as the LHR celebrates the balance between economic growth, environmental sustainability, and cultural heritage. Whether in the classroom or the outdoors, PLT empowers young learners to think critically about the environment around them.
