Learn More About MOSHANNON CREEK WATERSHED ASSOCIATION

The Moshannon Creek Watershed Association (MCWA) is dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and ecological health of Moshannon Creek and its tributaries. While parts of the creek boast pristine water quality and thriving wild trout populations, other sections suffer from severe contamination due to mine drainage from abandoned coal and clay mines.

The MCWA works tirelessly to:

-Protect Clean Water Streams: Safeguarding the health of headwaters and unpolluted tributaries within the Moshannon Creek watershed.
-Restore Tainted Streams: Addressing acid mine drainage (AMD) and improving water quality in impacted areas.

How We Achieve This Goal:

-Volunteer Work: Organizing community efforts to maintain and improve treatment systems.
-Grant Applications: Securing funding for the study, design, and implementation of innovative treatment solutions.
-Ongoing Maintenance: Managing treatment systems along Cold Stream Creek to enhance water quality and support aquatic life.

Why Support the Moshannon Creek Watershed?

-Ecological Importance: The watershed is home to clean streams that sustain wild trout populations and contribute to the overall health of the region.
-Community Impact: Restoring and protecting these waterways improves recreational opportunities, biodiversity, and the quality of life for local communities.
-Volunteer Opportunities: Get involved and make a difference through hands-on projects, meetings, and events.
