Learn More About CANOE PLACE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Canoe Place Historical Society, based in Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania, is dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and sharing the rich history of Port Allegheny and the surrounding region. Established in September 2008 by a group of passionate history enthusiasts, the Society has been a cornerstone for those interested in learning about local heritage and researching family history.

The Canoe Place Historical Society was founded to:

-Preserve and display the history of Port Allegheny and nearby areas.
-Educate future generations about the region’s cultural and historical significance.
-Support genealogical research for individuals tracing their family roots.

Notable Activities and Projects:

-Port Allegheny Bicentennial Celebration: Sponsored in 2016, this event was a highlight of the Society’s community involvement.
-Union Cemetery Restoration: The ongoing refurbishment of the historic Union Cemetery in downtown Port Allegheny is one of our most important preservation efforts.
-Educational Programs: Monthly meetings and programs presented by local historians have enriched community knowledge about the region’s past.

With new leadership and a renewed focus on historical preservation, the Society aims to be a visible and active force in promoting the legacy of Port Allegany for years to come. Our efforts continue to support historical education, community engagement, and the preservation of artifacts and stories from the past.
