The Allegheny National Forest is inviting public comments on the Environmental Analysis of the Fourmile Project. According to Bradford District Ranger Rich Hatfield, “In the summer of 2021, a group of Forest Service resource specialists reviewed this project area and developed a series of actions to bring the project area into better balance with the goals and objectives identified in the Allegheny National Forest’s Management Plan.”
Proposed Actions
The proposed actions within the project area aim to enhance forest health and align with the forest’s management objectives. Key actions include:
- Forest Health Improvements: Tree harvesting and reforestation efforts.
- Oak Restoration: Initiatives to restore and promote oak tree populations.
- Prescribed Fire: Controlled burns to manage vegetation and reduce wildfire risks.
- Invasive Plant Treatment: Efforts to control non-native invasive species.
- Wildlife Habitat Improvements: Enhancements to support diverse wildlife populations.
- Aquatic Habitat and Stream Improvements: Projects to improve water quality and aquatic ecosystems.
- Transportation Actions: Adding roads to the Forest Service transportation system, managing existing roads, and improving road conditions.
