Replacement of a damaged welcome sign on U.S. Route 219 to enhance the county’s image and provide a positive first impression for travelers entering McKean County.

Project Details

The McKean County Welcome Sign project involved replacing a damaged welcome sign on U.S. Route 219 in Bradford, at the Pennsylvania/New York border. The original sign, which had welcomed visitors to McKean County, needed replacement to maintain the region’s welcoming image and provide a positive first impression for travelers entering the area.

The McKean County Planning Commission applied for a Lumber Heritage Region mini-grant to fund the new signage. The grant covered the cost of designing and fabricating the sign. Heath Cousins, a local designer from Eldred, PA, was contracted to create and install the sign, ensuring it met the aesthetic standards of the region.

The project also involved coordinating with the landowner to secure an easement for placing the sign, showcasing the collaborative effort between local authorities and private landowners. The new sign is strategically positioned to be highly visible to motorists, enhancing the county’s image and providing a warm welcome to visitors.

The new welcome sign plays a crucial role in promoting McKean County as a destination and helps in branding the region as part of the Lumber Heritage area. It also serves as a wayfinding tool, assisting travelers in navigating the area and encouraging them to explore local attractions and businesses.
