Project Details

The Mahoning Shadow Trail project in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, involved the creation of a comprehensive color brochure featuring a detailed map and photos of the trail across all four seasons. The brochure aims to promote the trail, provide essential information, and attract more visitors to the area.

The brochure includes:

  • Map of the Mahoning Shadow Trail: A detailed map showing the trail’s layout, key points of interest, and access points.
  • Seasonal Photos: Images depicting the trail’s beauty in spring, summer, fall, and winter, highlighting the unique experiences each season offers.
  • Driving Directions: Clear directions to the trailhead and parking areas to help visitors easily find and access the trail.
  • Trail Highlights: Information on the trail’s features, such as scenic views, historical sites, and natural attractions.
  • Trail Etiquette: Guidelines for responsible use of the trail to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
  • Contact Information: Details for the Punxsutawney Area Rails-to-Trails Association and other relevant organizations.
  • Local Attractions and Event Information: Recommendations for nearby attractions and events, encouraging visitors to explore the wider area.

With the support of the Lumber Heritage Region grant, the Punxsutawney Area Rails-to-Trails Association successfully designed and printed the new brochure. Approximately 8,000 copies were produced, and these brochures have been distributed widely, including as a featured insert in the Punxsutawney Hometown Magazine. The brochures are available at various local venues, such as the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce, the Groundhog Club Headquarters, the Punxsutawney Area Community Center, the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center, the Punxsutawney Memorial Library, and the Punxsutawney Area School District Central Office. Additionally, they are available at the chambers of commerce in Dubois, Brookville, and Indiana.

This brochure project has significantly enhanced the promotion of the Mahoning Shadow Trail, making it easier for visitors to plan their trips and encouraging more people to explore this beautiful trail.
