Installation of a 60-foot seasonal public boat dock to enhance river access, promote tourism, and support local businesses and community activities in Lock Haven.

Project Details

The Lock Haven Boat Dock project involved the installation of a 60-foot seasonal public boat dock in the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, near the J. Doyle Corman Amphitheater. This initiative aimed to enhance the recreational and tourism opportunities in Lock Haven, Clinton County, by providing better access to the river and connecting it with the city’s vibrant downtown area and community spaces.

The dock, which is installed from the beginning of May through the end of October (weather permitting), serves as a crucial link between the river and the city. By offering a convenient docking option, it encourages more boaters to visit Lock Haven and explore its river walk, amphitheater, and downtown business district. This increased accessibility is expected to boost local tourism, support local businesses, and enhance the overall economic vitality of the area.

The project was a true community effort, with contributions and support from various local, regional, and state agencies. The Clinton County Community Foundation, Clinton County Tourism Grant, Clinton County Economic Partnership, Walmart Foundation, The Express, Steve Linn, First National Bank, and private donations all played a role in making the dock a reality.

Mayor Baney highlighted the project as a prime example of community partnership, expressing excitement about the opportunities the boat dock would bring to Lock Haven. By connecting people to the river and the city’s open spaces, the dock fosters a deeper appreciation for the natural environment and promotes outdoor recreational activities.

The installation of the dock is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of life in Lock Haven and make it a more attractive destination for both residents and visitors. The new dock is expected to draw over 400 local registered boaters and numerous visitors, providing them with easy access to the river and encouraging them to engage with the city’s amenities.

In summary, the Lock Haven Boat Dock project successfully enhances the connection between the Susquehanna River and the community, promoting tourism, recreation, and economic development. By providing a safe and convenient docking option, the project supports local businesses and enriches the recreational experiences of both residents and visitors.
