ALLEGHENY HIKE BIKE SKI ASSOCIATION

Allegheny Hike, Bike and Ski is an all volunteer organization founded in 2016 to create and maintain hike, bike and ski trails in the southeastern portion of the Allegheny National Forest. In some ways we are the successor organization to the Bootjack Snow Gliders who used to the maintain the Laurel Mill Ski Trails. We are best considered to be a 'friends of' group, working alongside Federal, State, and local agencies to improve recreation opportunities in the Allegheny National Forest and neighboring communities. As an IRS 501 (c) 3 Not for profit organization donations to support our work are tax deductible. In 2021 we entered into a partnership agreement with the US Forest Service to maintain and oversee the Laurel Mill Trail system. These trails have been neglected for over a decade and we are working to restore them, including resuming cross country ski grooming. These trails are open for hiking and cross country skiing. Forest Service regulations do not allow bicycles, but we are working with the Forest Service to allow bikes on some of the trails in the future. We are also working with Ridgway Township to develop mountain bike trails at the Township's Sandy Beach Park which borders the Allegheny National Forest. We hope that at some point in the future bicycling will be allowed on some of the Laurel Mill Trails and then the Sandy Beach mountain bike trails will connect to them.

WARREN COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT

The mission of the Warren County Conservation District is to improve the environmental quality of Warren County by promoting the wise use, enhancement, and understanding of natural resources. Conservation Districts are made up of volunteers committed to the conservation movement. The focus and set-up of a Conservation District varies by county depending on the needs of each county. However, encouraging farm conservation planning and proper management of soil and water resources remains the backbone of the District’s programs. Today, however, an awareness of increasing environmental problems has expanded the District’s programs to include conservation education in schools, urban and rural erosion and sedimentation control programs, and nonpoint source pollution programs. The District Board continues to direct the local program and emphasize conservation education and water quality issues. The Warren County Conservation District (WCCD) was established in 1948 to address local conservation issues. The WCCD maintains a website explaining our programs and includes links to necessary forms. Information available includes but is not limited to the following: Educational program information including applications for camps; Dirt, Gravel, & Low Volume Road Program applications; Garden Plot information, and a variety of useful information. The site is updated throughout the year with all of the latest information and forms. We have realized savings with postage, time, and paper in all of our programs.

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF TIMBER RAFTING (IATR)

The corner stone of our International Association of Timber-Raftsmen has been laid on November 11, 1989 in Barcelona, Catalonia-Spain. The association was officially founded in Spittal, Austria on 1 September 1991, twelve associations from Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Finland and Sweden participated and status were signed in Venetia 5 September 1992.The International Association has now grown up into a organization of 38 members. The International Association keeps many contacts with other sister organizations that maintain the tradition on their lakes and rivers. The purpose of these contacts is to bring these organizations to cooperate with our International Association. One goal is to research historical documents and other evidence of timber floating methods by waterways, throughout the large river regions in the world up until the beginning of the modern industrial society. Through the centuries, rafting has brought timber to the cities for construction, for heating as well as for shipbuilding. The other goal of the International Association of Timber Rafting is to preserve the ecosystems of natural waters, lakes, rivers and even of forests. The International Association of Timber Rafting is a supranational association, that follow the common principles of peace, freedom and equality without any geographical, racial, ethnic, religious or political differences. It is formed by all those timber floating associations, that are willing to share them. All members must be legally competent and independent and represent their own districts’ historical trades dealing with the transport of timber by waterways. They are registered non profit associations.

AUSTIN DAM MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION

In 1994, the Austin Dam Memorial Association was formed and since has worked to create a beautiful natural park. The ADMA has taken a piece of Americana and repurposed it into a recreational park enjoyed by many while preserving the local history. We tell the story behind the controversial Austin Dam, the events that led to it’s failure along with the harrowing accounts of the people who lived and died here. Nestled in a narrow valley and along the winding stream of Freeman Run is the ruins of the Bayless Paper Mill Dam, currently referred to as the Austin Dam. In 1911, the dam broke and water engulfed much of the town of Austin and claimed over 78 lives. Come explore the ruins of the Austin Dam, the 2nd worst dam break in Pennsylvania history. Still, after more than a hundred years, an incredible sight. Ruins of the tall concrete leaners raise to the skies. A million pieces of broken aggregate lay beneath. A forest abounds around a grassy meadow that now covers this hallow ground. Enjoy a reflective, thought-provoking visit to our park. Our friendly hosts greet intrigued visitors who want to learn about these ruins. Spend a special day at the pavilion, music stage, memorial, and picnic areas or a overnight stay at a ecofriendly campsites in this unique park in the hills of Pennsylvania. Astounding views, rich history, seasonal welcome center and gift shop, camping, hiking, fishing, picnicking. In addition the these fun activities, our park has a number of special events throughout the year including the following: Gathering of the Artists in July The Austin Dam Show in August Terrifying Trail in October Look for updates and more events to be added

ROCKY RIDGE TRADING COMPANY

Rocky Ridge Trading Company is aptly named. Cameron County lies just west of the center of Pennsylvania in a mountainous region of the Allegheny Plateau. At the logging site, the company is harvesting northern hardwood and red and white oak. Pennsylvania has the country’s largest concentration of hardwood, accounting for about 90 percent of sawtimber volume. The state has an overabundance of larger old-growth tree stands, many located in tough terrain. Successfully extracting large timber from these areas represents a great opportunity. It also demands innovative approaches that combine the best logging machines with the latest technology solutions. Steep-slope logging methods have been used successfully in the Pacific Northwest and New Zealand but have not been used in the Eastern United States until recently. Rocky Ridge is one of the first companies in Pennsylvania to employ a tethered, winch-assisted traction solution. “We’ve always been trailblazers,” says Crissman. “We do things our way, using combinations of machines other loggers would consider unconventional, like combining cut-to-length with full-tree equipment. But it has worked for us.” Tim Crissman’s father Gus formed the family company in 1964. Back then it was known as Crissman Lumber Company. “My dad had been in the forest products industry all his life,” says Crissman. “He started out with a sawmill and a few logging crews. Growing up, I’d help him with the business. I’ve done everything from running a headrig that makes the initial cuts in the sawmill to loading drying kilns. But our hearts were always in the woods, so we got back into the logging business.” During the summers when Crissman was in college, he’d run a skidder while his father hand-felled. “He didn’t want me to hand-fell at first because it was dangerous,” he recalls. “But he taught me everything I know about the woods and logging.” The most important lesson his dad taught him was to “work hard until you make it work.” “Failure was not in his vocabulary,” says Crissman. “You could always find a solution if you worked hard enough.” Gus acquired the nickname The Legend at a John Deere fly-in a few years ago. “Each night he’d share story after story about how things were done out in the woods in the old days,” recalls Crissman. “They were funny stories but had serious messages as well. After a couple nights, everyone started calling him The Legend.”

PINE GROVE NURSERY & LAWNCARE

Pine Grove Nursery was formed in 1951 as a partnership of friends, C.R. Schickling and James Long in rural Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. Sixty-five plus years later, the nursery thrives in producing bare root seedlings and transplants on over 35 acres of farmland. Also available are cut Christmas trees, B&B trees, and shrubs on over 70 acres. The nursery also offers evergreens 3'-7' to be planted as a memorial. Orders are taken anytime and trees are dug in May or September. Mr. Long retired and withdrew from the partnership in 1983. The nursery was incorporated soon after. C.R. Schickling, CEO, remained active in the nursery until his death in June 2002. Rick Schickling, grandson of C.R., worked as general manager until his retirement in 2017, at which time Alex "Mike' Mitchell elevated his role from assistant to general manager. In March, 2019, Bob Schell and Betsy Schell, also grandchildren of C.R. Schickling, purchased the nursery. With our experienced staff we look forward to continuing the historic excellent service for our longstanding customers and ensuring new customers are met with the same standards! On October 1, 2023 the nursery was purchased by the Way family, Scott, his wife Jamie and son's Isakk and Braylen. Judy Davis remains the office manager since she began in 2004. The lawn care business is returning, which the Way family originally purchased from Pine Grove Nursery. They look forward to continuing the long time traditions of the nursery and have new ideas to add to the nursery for the future. They look forward to serving you and appreciate our existing customers and future customers.

COUNTY OF CLARION

Clarion County is a western Pennsylvania County situated on the Allegheny Plateau. The Allegheny River drains the western part of the county and also takes the waters of the Clarion River, which flow through it, from Jefferson County on the east. Established on March 11, 1839 from parts of Venango and Armstrong Counties, Clarion County becomes the 54th county in the state to be formed. Clarion County is a 6th Class county with a population of approximately 39,000. Clarion County produces a wide variety of manufactured goods including mobile homes, fiberboard and laminate flooring. Clarion County is the home of Clarion University of Pennsylvania. Land area consists of 601 square miles. Picturesque valleys carved from the mountains by the Allegheny and Clarion Rivers and their tributaries, which, along with the autumn foliage, attract visitors to Clarion County, enhance the county’s natural beauty. The rivers, along with Cook Forest State Park, are a great source of recreation in this area. Clarion is known as the “Autumn Leaf Capital,” and the peaceful beauty of nature is part of the character of the county. Clarion County celebrates this beauty annually with a weeklong celebration in the fall. Along with increasing recognition and growth as a business and industrial center for the 21st Century, Clarion County offers the best of all worlds, that of natural to industrial growth to higher education, making Clarion County a great place to visit and a better place to live. Clarion County is also home to Foxburg Country Club. Located in Foxburg, Foxburg Country Club is the oldest golf course in continuous in the United States. To commemorate this historical location, the club holds an annual Hickory Championship where the players play with clubs and rules of pre-1900s golf. Clubs being used in the tournament must be made before 1900 or are certified replicas to pre-1900 standards. Other rules include not being allowed to use a tee and players must use sand to prop their ball up for their drives. In attempt to make it feel more authentic, many athletes will dress in outfits that would resemble those worn around 1900. Foxburg Country Club is also home to the American Golf Hall of Fame.

CAMERON COUNTY OUTDOOR YOUTH ACTIVITES

The fundamental pillars of CCOYA's mission are to educate and mentor area youth on all facets of an outdoor lifestyle - from hunting and fishing to environmental education and awareness. To accomplish this, CCOYA regularly partners with both large and small businesses, local schools and libraries, as well as other local, state and national organizations. The Ron Andrews Family of Tunkhannock and Emporium, PA initiated the CCOYA endowment fund and organization as a means to support youth programs that foster understanding and enjoyment of the outdoors and the environment. We focus on youth ages 3 - 17. We believe the earlier we are able to spark interest in an outdoor lifestyle, the better the chances for us to positively impact growing and adult lives. We provide these opportunities through collaborative partnerships with schools, various community organizations, sportsmen's clubs, volunteers and other private and public sponsorship. We are a 501c3 non-profit and an approved EITC: PA Educational Improvement organization. The official name of our organization is Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities (aka, CCOYA). We are headquartered in Emporium, PA - Land of the Endless Mountains. The CCOYA endowment is managed by The Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains of Montrose, PA.

UNION ‘MUD’ CHURCH

When surveyor Charles Treziyulny laid out the town of Philipsburg for the firm of John Leigh Philips and Brothers of Manchester, England, he neglected to make a provision for a burial ground. Circa 1803-04, George and Rosalie Shultz's infant daughter Sally died from the croup. The Shultz's buried her on their partially cleared out lot in the shade of what is now known as the "Founders Oak" which began its life circa 1640. The Shultz's gave other settlers permission to bury their loved ones in their "hallowed ground." Seeing the need for a community burial ground, Mr. Philips traded the Shultz's their out lot for ground in Decatur Township, Clearfield Co. where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Mr. Shultz is often referred to as one of the "original twelve settlers" of 1797. However, there were probably at least twenty-five men, women and children in the group of original settlers. Members of this original group buried here are: George Shultz (1761-1844); Rosalie Barth Shultz (1770-1842); Sarah Densel Simier (died 1822); and Lovinia Simler Turner (died ca. 1818). When you walk through the burial ground and see large gaps between tombstones, this space isn't empty. It's filled with unmarked graves. In fact, there are well over 500 people buried there. Due to its overcrowded condition, an ordinance was passed in 1872 prohibiting further burials because "almost without exception each new burial unearths some poor unknown soul." After 1872, burials were allowed only by special permission, usually in the case of a spouse already being buried there. The last known burial was John Hudson in 1907. In 1819 or 1820, a subscription was made that stated: "We the subscribers wish to have a house built which will answer the double purpose of a school and place of worship to be free for moral regular preachers of the gospel of all denominations." Area residents donated their money, time and materials and the building was erected on the burial ground lot. By an agreement of all citizens, the Methodists, having a greater membership than any other denomination, and likewise the only one that was regularly supplied with preaching, were accorded occupancy of the building on the Sabbath at 11:00 a.m. The time for evening worship was "by early candlelight." Many of the present wall sconces are relics from the original "Meeting House." Prior to the 1834 public school laws, no one was forced to attend school and teaching was provided through "subscription schools". Each student had to pay tuition and supply all their own books, paper, pencils, pen, etc. Children were only taught the three "R' s": reading, writing and arithmetic. In 1841, another subscription was made for the purpose of "repairing and improving" the church. The subscription stated: "The proposed improvements are calculated to require an expenditure of three hundred dollars, the roof is to be new shingled and tin spouts added, the outside of the Church to be rough cast, the inside and ceiling to be lathed & plastered, the gallery and inside porch to be removed and a new porch with two windows to be constructed outside, on the West end an addition to be made to contain the pulpit, communion table and a vestry, the body of the Church to be pewed, the belfry to be repaired and a bell added". The "gallery and inside porch" would today be called a balcony and a vestibule. The rough cast plaster is where the church derived its name "The Old Mud Church." Similar to the first subscription, area residents donated their money, time and materials to the project. Hardman and Sophia Philips are believed to have significantly influenced the final design. Mr. Philips' employees we're engaged to do much of the work. When the renovations were finished in the fall of 1842, the cost greatly exceeded the original estimate of $300. Although numerous people failed to make their promised subscriptions, the Philps' were blamed for making changes which were "unnecessary and uncalled for". For instance, "the outside porch with two windows" turned into a crenellated bell tower with hand carved finials. Also, the shape of the windows was changed to an intricate gothic design. The quatrefoils at the top of the windows are said to have been carved with a penknife by Samuel Burris, one of Mr. Philips' employees. Since Mr. Philips absorbed the cost of the overrun, he attempted to claim the church as a Protestant Episcopal Church. Perhaps his motivation was because two of his children are interred in the burial ground. Many local residents strongly opposed Mr Philips' plan and desired the church to remain free to all denominations. A third subscription was made to hire an attorney to fight Mr. Philips. After a long and tedious lawsuit, Judge Woodward considered the proceedings entirely unwarranted and because the judgment would irregular to both the plaintiff and defendant, he laid the case aside. The present appearance of the Union Church, both interior and exterior, most accurately represent the work of 1841-42. There have been no structural changes and the original flooring, window glass, pews, bell and brass whale oil lamps remain. The pews were built by Christian Emigh at a cost of $60. The church bell came from the Philipsburg Screw Factory, one of the first screw factories in the United States. Through the years, the Union Church continued to shelter the services of the Episcopalians, Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans and worshippers of other denominations until the 1920s when the Free Methodists were the last to hold regular services there. In 1978, the Union Church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of interior, Washington, D.C.

JOHN HENRY SIMLER HOUSE

The Simler House is estimated to have been built circa 1810 by Revolutionary War veteran John Henry Simler. The house features a typical tavern layout, with a kitchen and barroom downstairs, although there is no record of Simler having had a liquor license while he lived there. Accommodations for guests would have been on the second floor and attic. Simler sold the home in 1824 to Hardman Philips, youngest brother of town founder Henry Philips. Throughout the years, the house served at various times as a boarding house, a bakery, and a private residence. By 2000, the house had fallen into sad disrepair and was on the verge of being torn down when local philanthropist and Simler descendent Barabara Bezilla purchased the home to save it. In 2001, the house was restored in memory of Donald Simler by his wife. Ahead of the town’s 225th anniversary celebration in September 2022, Philipsburg Historical Foundation Curator Chris Watson spent several hundred hours researching and acquiring period furniture and accessories to make the Simler House a living history museum that gives people a better idea of what life was like when the Simlers lived there. Items of particular interest to modern visitors include a six-gallon bake kettle that would have served as the house’s oven; a bed warmer with perforations in a star-pattern that would have been filled with hot coals and used to heat up chilly beds before sleep; and a pipe box filled with clay pipes. The pioneers did not have the concept of germs that we do and would have shared the same pipes. Before the advent of box springs, feather or straw mattresses would have been supported by a grid of ropes strung around the bed frame, which can be seen on the beds. The Philipsburg Borough crew, under the direction of Borough Manager Joel Watson, built an authentic, two-hole log outhouse for the occasion out of salvaged trees and placed it on the Simler House property.

It preserves the legacy of this distinguished family and is a monument to the toil and resolve of a cadre of indomitable workers and their families. In an era when the average lifespan of regional iron-making companies was 15 years, Eagle Iron Works was in operation for 112 years. COALPORT AREA COAL MUSEUM

The Coalport Area Coal Museum is located in the large hallway of the Coalport Community Building at 961 Forrest Street in "Historic Coalport" (Beccaria Township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania) Founded in 1991 through the efforts of the Coalport Area Museum Commission and the Glendale Industrial Development Association, our Museum was funded initially by contributions from the community, donations from businesses, and small grants. Thanks to the Coalport Borough Council, the museum was given a 'home' in its expansive corridors of the community building—itself the former Coalport Elementary School built in 1937. All of the artifacts in the Museum were donated by families of former coal miners who wished to have their memories preserved following our motto: To Enrich our Future by Preserving the Past. Most of the items on display are from the early hand-loading days of mining bituminous coal--for which our region was primarily known. The town's name of "Coalport"," incorporated as a borough in 1883, most likely derived from the main industry that was quite ubiquitous in our central Pennsylvania region. Our records show there were over 400 coal mines at various times in our Glendale Valley region of central Pennsylvania--know for its quality-burning bituminous coal. Although there are currently no deep mines, there are a few coal strip mines still operating in our area. Spoil piles of local mines still dot the region, and, among other places, can even be seen directly behind the Coal Museum. Heading north on Forest Street, there's a large space where the former "Sunshine Mine" existed—as Coalport was one of the very few communities which had a large working mine and tipple practically in the town center! Coalport is one of the five municipalities making up the "Glendale Valley" region and is located three miles from Prince Gallitzin State Park and Glendale Lake. In April 2000, Coalport's downtown section had the honor of being named to the prestigious National Register of Historic Places—with 53 original buildings helping the town earn that distinction.

SPRING VALLEY MAPLE

Scott Kolesar of Spring Valley Maple produces his own syrup from a grove of sugar maples on his property in his “sugar shack.” Scott took 1st place in the Grade A - Amber Syrup in glass, 2nd place in Grade A - Dark Syrup in glass and 2nd place Grade A - Very Dark Syrup in glass at the 2023 Pennsylvania Farm Show with his maple syrup. The process starts with drilling a tap hole into a maple tree. A spout is inserted to direct the sap to either a bucket or into tubing that sends the sap to a large collection tank at the sugar house or a central collection area using a vacuum pump. From the storage tanks, the sap is often put through a reverse osmosis machine, which takes a percentage of the water from the sap before boiling. The evaporation process sends clouds of sweet maple scented steam billowing from the sugarhouse cupolas and steam stacks. An evaporator is where the boiling takes place. Stainless steel pans sit atop an arch, or firebox, where either oil or wood creates an intense fire. As the water in the sap evaporates, the sap thickens. When the thermometer in the pan reaches 219 degrees the syrup is ready to draw off. Even though it looks like the finished product it will still need to be filtered, adjusted for density and graded for flavor and color. Choose PURE MAPLE SYRUP, a natural sweetener and a smart food choice!

ARMISTEAD WOOD DESIGN, LLC

Armistead Wood Design is owned and operated by Matt Armistead in Bellefonte, PA, and produces custom, heirloom-quality furniture and other wood creations. I have always had a thirst to create and build. My interest in woodworking began when I was in high school on annual trips to visit family in Georgia where I was exposed to tools that I normally did not have access to and would spend hours in the shop. With a Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training from the University of Delaware, and a Master's Degree in Kinesiology and Sports Medicine from Penn State University, I began my career as an athletic trainer. I worked with several athletic teams over my career, managing and rehabilitating their injuries. When downtime allowed (mainly winter and summer breaks) I would spend most of that time creating and building projects. As I have grown, learned, and created more, I decided that I would like to take my 'DIY' attitude of making items for our own home and share my craft with the world!

7 MOUNTAINS MEDIA

We were just minding our own business when the call came in from Pennsylvania. Communities that we cared about were crying out for good quality Radio. The Radio that they loved had slowly been replaced with programming and disc jockeys shot in from a satellite, the same songs over and over, and a lack of engaging local content. Listeners deserve more. We have the passion and the know how to make a difference. We started with a handful of stations; selected the music locally and reconnected with the community. We have a group of 25 hand-crafted radio brands across 67 signals and a team of creative people that are driven to make the type of local content that our communities crave. We connect with our listeners, on-air, on-site, and online. We are Seven Mountains Media. We make fine radio.

IRVIN MANOR

A home that started out as a dream in 1858 has once again fulfilled the dream of a Curwensville native. Shelly Matlack Ferlemann had been dreaming for more than twenty years of owning the property and restoring it to its former glory. The hope for the building was to be a place that people from Curwensville and from all around could come inside and enjoy the splendor of the house. Irvin Manor is a special home that has so much history behind it and so much promise of wonderful memories ahead of it. It as the heartbreak of a love story that wasn't meant to be. It has the history of the famous Bucktails from the Civil War ear. It has the charm and ambiance of a bygone day. Come to Irvin Manor to spend the night or to attend an event. SCRIPTURE ROCKS HERITAGE PARK

Hidden in the woods surrounding the town of Brookville, Pennsylvania is a story about a man, his triumphs, his hardships, his obsessions, and his deeply felt religious convictions. Many local legends abound about the mysterious carved Bible rocks frequently encountered in the wooded hillsides around Brookville, Pennsylvania. But what is the real story behind the rocks and the man who created them over 100 years ago? The Scripture Rocks Heritage Park is a free public hiking area maintained and operated by the Jefferson County Historical Society. Here visitors can explore 4.5 acres of a forested hillside on improved trailways that lead to 67 sandstone boulders engraved by Douglas M. Stahlman between 1910 and 1913 as part of his personal religious calling. It is the location of Altar Rock converted into an open air chapel for group worship and later the location of his live-in cabin wherein he penned his journal. The park also contains a small prehistoric Native American campsite and was the location of some mid-19th century quarrying and exploratory test diggings for possible mine development. Interpretative Panels located throughout the park present many aspects of nature and local history. We invite you to make plans to hike, explore and learn about a fascinating bit of Jefferson County History.

RESTLESS OAKS FAMILY RESTAURANT

Restless Oaks Family Style Restaurant opened in 1984 as a small family-owned restaurant and remains the same today. Originally it was a small diner, serving daily homemade soups, hand-pressed burgers, and a large selection of baked pies. Restless Oaks has been a labor of love, ever-expanding and aided by its community’s handy members. In 1986 the dining room was added with a huge fireplace. The masonry work was done by the Jacobs family from Castanea. Etchings created by hand are featured around the windows, and Craig Brady was commissioned for wood carvings all around the restaurant. The PA Room was added in 1991, providing a space for large family gatherings of up to 36 people. A visit to Restless Oaks has always been, and will always be, about family. After a hearty meal, patrons can visit the gift shop and find handcrafted goods made by local artisans and books written about beautiful Central Pennsylvania. Restless Oaks hopes to see you soon for a good meal and a good time!

CASTANEA RAILROAD STATION

Much of Clinton County's History is tied to railroads. Local railroads carrying logs, coal, and passengers joined with larger systems, providing endless market potential. The former Lock Haven Station of the Beech Creek, Southern, and Clearfield Railroad, located in Castanea and constructed in 1883, is a fine example of Victorian architecture. Owned by the Clinton County Historical Society, it presently houses the Clinton Central Model Railroad Club and their layout of model trains and railroad memorabilia. Visit their website at www.ccmrr.org. Also on site are an informational kiosk, in the shape of a 1930s water tank, and a restored 1941 caboose and boxcar. Stay in our 1941 Vintage Restored Caboose. Conveniently located near Interstate 80! Spend the night in a caboose which sleeps 2 and is equipped with sink, toilet, shower, microwave, coffee, Keurig coffee maker, and linens. PUNXSUTAWNEY GROUNDHOG CLUB

The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Inner Circle is comprised of 15 members whose task it is to protect and perpetuate the legend of the great weather-predicting groundhog Punxsutawney Phil. The club was formed in the 1880’s, and as the legend of Punxsutawney Phil grew, so too did the ceremony that honors him every February 2nd at Gobblers Knob. The Inner Circle manages and hosts the festivities of Groundhog Day that culminate at 7:20 AM when they don their tuxedos and top hats to help bring Punxsutawney Phil from his stump so that he can tell the world if it will be an early spring, or if 6 more weeks of winter are ahead. Punxsutawney Phil’s prognostications have drawn the attention and praise of thousands of his faithful followers who now flock to Gobblers Knob each year from around the world. With so many of Phil’s fans now devoted to the celebration, the Inner Circle hosts additional events and gatherings throughout the week leading up to Groundhog Day, including the Groundhog Ball and the Groundhog Banquet. Phil and the club also travel throughout the world, visiting people who wish to meet Phil and find out more about his amazing popularity and regal stature. In the late summer, the club makes a Trek to Phil's Stump at Gobbler's Knob to feed him his “Elixir of Life”. The elixir is made from a secret recipe and provides Phil with the potion that has sustained his longevity and youthful good looks. While the Inner Circle acts as the keepers and protectors of Punxsutawney Phil, the Groundhog Club consists of many more wonderful members from around the world.

NORTH COUNTRY CREATIONS

North Country Creations has been capturing the beauty of America’s wildlife in wood in a way that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional, since 1992. This functional art takes its shape in the form of such things as curio cabinets, bookcases, desks, mirrors, murals, beds, coffee and end tables, plaques, clocks, gun cabinets, and other types of furniture and accessories for every room. It is also captured on the stocks of rifles, shotguns and handguns, and even knives. The scenes depict wildlife in their natural settings, lending to their lifelike appearances. Kirby F. Neubert is a nationally acclaimed artist who has been working professionally in woodcarving since 1992. His fine eye for detail and his ability to capture the dynamic vitality of wildlife in his carvings set him apart as a true master of this craft.

GREATER RENOVO AREA HERITAGE PARK

The Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park is an organization focused on uniting, preserving, and promoting the history and culture of the Greater Renovo Area. Where are you from, we are often asked. I’m from Renovo we say with a smile. And then the conversation begins… Imagine…there is this place… it’s remote, …quiet… almost too quiet for some… just off Interstate 80 smack dab in the middle of Pennsylvania. The minute you take the off-ramp… you’re in it. All around you are mountains carpeted in green in the summer and a blazing array of color in the fall. You’re taken in by the coolness of the air feeding out of the hollows of the hills as you travel north along the Bucktail Scenic Byway following the West Branch of the Susquehanna River … a well worn path traveled by the Lenni-Lenape and Iroquois, pioneers seeking fortune, and families looking to carve out a home in the wilderness. Along the banks of the river are cuts and scars left from the great log drives of the late 1800s when millions of white pine, spruce, and hemlock logs flooded the river in the spring on the way to mills in Lock Haven and Williamsport. Criss-crossing the river is today’s descendant of the Philadelphia and Erie Railroad that was once home to the Flier… a passenger train that ran twice a day between Buffalo and Philadelphia stopping at towns just long enough to pick up business people, travelers, and families excited about a shopping trip in the big city. You are minutes away from a small town called Renovo. It is the hub of activity for people living in the villages and small communities that are tucked into the valleys and on tops of the hills of Western Clinton County.

Production at the new Emporium mill is closing in on 40 million board feet – an increase of 50% over the former mill. Our hardwoods are sourced from Appalachian hardwood forests within a 100-mile radius of the mill. Two double-cut slant head-rigs and two-band re-saws will produce lumber to an edging and grading line, operated only by graduate NHLA graders. The sorting line has 37 automated bays to ensure a maximum range of sizes and grades before stacking and kiln drying.

COUNTY OF CAMERON

Cameron County is the commonwealth’s second smallest in both land area, at 398 square miles, and population. In 2010, according to the census, the population was 5,085. It was founded and formed on March 29, 1860, from parts of McKean, Elk, Clearfield, Clinton, and Potter counties. Emporium, the county seat, was incorporated into the county on October 13, 1864. Today, the county is the heart of the powdered metal industry. The county is the birthplace of the famous screen and TV star Tom Mix. Another favorite son is Rick Peltz, federal co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission. The flagstone surrounding the tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery was quarried here. The county was one of several to contribute sharpshooters and is the sight of the disembarkation of the famous Bucktail Brigade during the Civil War. An outdoor paradise, the county boasts opportunities for hunters, fishermen, and nature enthusiasts. It has a reputation for its natural beauty. It is a great escape for people living the hectic rush of city life, but residents here call it a “beautiful place to live.” It is located in the "Heart of the PA Wilds".

MT JEWETT TO KINZUA BRIDGE TRAIL CLUB (MJ2KB)

An 8-mile section of northern Pennsylvania's Knox & Kane Rail Trail opened in McKean County in 2018. The crushed- limestone pathway runs through a largely forested corridor between US Route 219 (Lantz Corners) and the Kinzua Bridge State Park. The park's signature feature is the 301-foot-high Kinzua Bridge Skywalk, which was the tallest railroad bridge in the world when it was built in 1882. This section of the Knox Kane Rail Trail is the only section that allows not only hikers & bikers, but equestrians and snowmobilers in the winter. The Mt Jewett to Kinzua Bridge Trail Club is a group of volunteers that help with the maintenance and improvements of the 8 miles of the corridor, directly connected to the Kinzua Bridge State Park. The rail trail offers many amenities along the trail, such as shelters with picnic tables, interpretive signage that illustrates the rich history of our area and spectacular scenery. The club helps to educate the public about the forests that surround the rail trail and holds many events throughout the year. The club's section of the Knox & Kane Rail Trail was designated by DCNR Pennsylvania's Trail of the Year 2023!

DOOLITTLE STATION

Doolittle Station in DuBois is an eclectic mix of restaurants, museums, a brewery, and a bed and breakfast, all housed in historic train cars! And if that’s not enough, there’s also ice cream, mini golf, and dinosaurs!  At first glance, Doolittle Station is primarily a collection of unique eateries and in fact, it did begin as a cafe and creamery. But nowadays, visitors will also find a bed and breakfast, an animatronic dinosaur museum, mini-golf, laser tag, a brewery, model train museum, and goats. Yes, goats. Most of the attractions at Doolittle Station are located inside renovated rail cars and the three with the most fascinating histories (Teddy Roosevelt’s campaign train and two cars from the Barnum & Bailey Circus) are part of the Bed and Breakfast. This Clearfield County destination is located less than 5 minutes from the Route 219 exit of Interstate 80, making it a great pitstop if you’re passing through the area and looking for a unique place to eat or relax.

Now after 15 years we have about 15 employees, 2 additional locations, and 30 varieties of wine. Our philosophy about wine is that it is just that, wine. HIKING TO BEER

He was overweight, he had lost his job, and he was in need of a serious life change. That’s when he decided to do something just about impossible: hiking the Appalachian Trail. But that wasn’t enough of a kick in the butt for Lloyd—he also gave up beer. As the ultimate motivation to meet his goal, he promised to swear off the hoppy goodness until he reached Mount Katahdin, and the finish line, in Maine. After months of preparation, Lloyd set off to Georgia to start his two thousand-mile trek. He couldn’t have known on that March night that six months later he would finish his journey a changed man, while making interesting friends, experiencing breathtaking vistas, penning trail ballads on his homemade ukulele, and surviving brown recluse spider bites along the way. An adventure story, inspirational tale, and guide to roughing it in the backcountry, Hiking to Beer is a funny and poignant read for outdoor aficionados, aspiring hikers, and everyone in-between.
