During the darkest days of the Great Depression, twenty-five percent of the the nations\'s workforce was hopelessly unemployed. In desperation, President Franklin Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a program which took unemployable young me off the streets and put them to work in rural areas. There they could work on the Country's woefully battered environment, planting trees, blazing trails and most importantly fighting forest fires.

This video, by renown CCC Historian Dr. Michael Schultz, chronicles this tumultuous time in America's history against the backdrop of the Pennsylvania Lumber Heritage Region.
